Our connected world allows us, here in the UK, to buy gems and stones from Thailand, eat fruit grown in Spain and use phones manufactured in China.
In this Sustainability Network Speaker Series panel session, we invite an international buyer, a supplier, and a representative from a trading initiative to discuss whose job is it to make these global supply chains more sustainable?
The typical consumer company’s supply chain creates far greater social and environmental impacts than its own operations, accounting for more than 80 percent of greenhouse-gas emissions and more than 90 percent of the impact on air, land, water, biodiversity, and geological resources (McKinsey & Company)
As society attempts to wrestle with the increasingly pressing social and environmental impacts of our global chains, ethical and environmental failings still regularly hit the headlines. This is an opportunity to learn about some of the complex issues around improving the social and environmental sustainability of supply chains from industry professionals, and an opportunity to ask them how they are working to be effective change agents for good.
Who is it for?
This is an open event to Â鶹´«Ã½AV staff and students and business and sustainability enthusiasts alike. This session is for anyone with a curiosity about how to gain more awareness of how to make their own sense of the globally pressing sustainability issues and how to consciously shift good intentions into meaningful actions.
