What you will learn
On successful completion of the course you will be able to:
- Critically analyse cybersecurity and online threats related to terrorism,
- Critically evaluate and assess the characteristics of cybercrime, cyberwarfare and cyberterrorism,
- Examine and evaluate the challenges posed by cyberterrorism with regard to legal frameworks and policy responses,
- Critically evaluate the response of government, enforcement agencies and NGOs to the threat and risks posed by cyberterrorism,
- Analyse principles of resilience and risk management in developing responses to cyberterrorism.
Core content
- Defining and classifying cybercrime, cyberwarfare and cyberterrorism,
- The nature and scale of terrorist use of cyberspace,
- The role of state actors in cyber threats,
- Characteristics of cyberterrorism,
- Relationship between cybersecurity and cyberterrorism,
- Core debates in cybersecurity,
- NGOs and public private partnerships,
- Risk mitigation.

After successful completion of this course 10 credits can be put towards the Counterterrorism MSc or Counterterrorism, Risk Management and Resilience MSc

Location and travel
Situated close to Milton Keynes and Bedford, the Cranfield campus is situated in Wharley End, very close to Cranfield village, and is about 10 minutes from the M1 motorway. There is rail and road access to most major airports as well as coach and train stations. Cranfield campus also has its own airport for private executive business travel.
