All of Cranfield's major refurbishments and new buildings are constructed to meet 's excellent standards.
Our 'masterplan' sets out the framework for any long-term investment in infrastructure.
Recent and forthcoming examples of BREEAM buildings can be found below.
Climate adaptation
We have created a climate change adaptation strategy (in line with our environmental targets) which sets out recommendations for climate change adaptation planning and actions for Â鶹´«Ã½AV until 2030. The strategy recommends that climate change adaptation is incorporated into University forward planning. You can read this using the link below:
Aerospace Integrated Research Centre (AIRC)
This collaborative research facility was constructed to BREEAM standard in line with our environmental objectives.
Digital Aviation Research and Technology Centre (DARTeC)
The Digital Aviation Research and Technology Centre (DARTeC) at Â鶹´«Ã½AV, finished in 2021, meets the BREEAM Excellent standard and spearheads the UK’s research into digital aviation technology.
The Centre is part of three major Â鶹´«Ã½AV themes: Transport Systems, Aerospace and Manufacturing and Materials.
DARTeC consists of a central building with a double-storey atrium and 11 advanced digital aviation research laboratories. Adjacent to the main building is a unique sensored ‘hangar laboratory’, connected to Cranfield’s 737-400 aircraft through an airport-style air bridge. The hangar canopy and main building roofs mirror each other to form matching ‘stealth fighter’ profiles when viewed from above.
Learning and teaching centre
In 2012, our Learning and Teaching Centre achieved a BREEAM 'Excellent' rating within the refurbishment category and was awarded ‘Best Education Development’ in the the same year.
Stringfellow infrastructure
