Background

Caroline Keay is responsible for the management of the Land Information System (LandIS), maintaining a range of reference documents and a comprehensive knowledge of the soil data holdings of NSRI.

Project management for the LandIS support contract funded by Defra including writing project proposals and reports

Managing a small team to meet the requirements of the LandIS support contract

Hardware and Software specification and procurement

Managing the data lease activities of the LandIS group

Extracting and manipulating LandIS data for various clients, using Oracle tools and ESRI ARCView for spatial representation

Research into the effect of Climate Change on Agricultural Land Classification in England and Wales

Producing map based data for the definition of Areas facing Natural Constraint

Developing an online guide to the Soils of England and Wales (available at http://www.landis.org.uk)

Principal contact point for the UK National Reference Centre for Soils within the EIONET

Links with European Soil organisations including the Joint Research Centre, Ispra

Helping to develop new standards for the INSPIRE programme and ISO standards for Soil data

Undertaking the First Aid at Work training course
