Background
Dr Alex Skordos graduated from NTUA (Athens) with a Dipl Ing in Metallurgical Engineering. He was awarded a Marie Curie Fellowship to pursue his doctoral studies on modelling and monitoring of composites processing at Â鶹´«Ã½AV. He held postdoctoral positions at the University of Reading - Centre for Biomimetics, Â鶹´«Ã½AV - Advanced Materials Department and University of Cambridge - Centre for Micromechanics.
Alex has worked extensively on the development and implementation of numerical models for composites manufacturing, the development of functional polymer composites, the development of process monitoring and sensing techniques and the application of inverse methods to optimisation and parameter identification in composites processing and design. He is author/co-author of over 60 reviewed journal and conference papers,a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece.
Current activities
Dr Alex Skordos is a Lecturer in Composites Modelling. He is involved in research on simulation and optimisation of composites manufacturing, processing and functionality of polymer nanocomposites and development of constitutive models for polymer composites. Alex lectures in the Manufacturing and Materials Department on the subjects of Finite Element Modelling, Composites Processing and Composites Performance. His general interests are on the development of efficient simulation tools and of cost effective monitoring methods for materials processing and their integration with inverse techniques. One specific area of interest concerns the experimental characterisation and computational simulation of variability in polymer composites and the investigation and exploitation of trade-offs between variability, cost and performance.
