Background
Chris is keen energetics researcher with over six years academic experience in the field. After graduating form Imperial College she worked in the defence industry with a focus on polymers for a few years. Taking on a different challenge, she moved on to work in lubricant additives. Then Chris decided it was time to go back school, learn about additive manufacturing and how to print thermites. After completing a doctorate, Chris continued to persue her found love of things energetic by joining the test and evaluation group, Where she can use knowledge of additive manfacturing and the challenge of measuring extrmeme chemistries to enhance the small scale explosives testing environment.
Research opportunities
- Test method devolopment for small scale explosives testing.
- Additive manufacture of energetics, graduated and layered. (Pyrotechnics, Propellants and Explosives)
- Additive Manufacture to support energetic applications.
- Blast wave shaping through architecture.
- Powder processing and the effect on powder properties.
- Kinetics of thermitic reactions.
- 'Green' pyrotechnics, including propellant formulations.
Current activities
Making small scale testing more accessible to our partners by exploring cost and time saving options, as it is key to improving safety and speed of development. Exploitation of 3D pinting for energetic materials, this includes blast wave shaping and energetic matierals for 3D printing with an eye on sustainablility. Exploration of kinetics in multicomponent pyrotechnic systems.
