Background
Dr Christos Mourouzidis hails from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece, where he studied Mechanical Engineering and received his first Diploma. He then worked in the industry for more than 8 years, focusing on the design and installation of heat and power generation units and systems. He specialised on burners and the combustion process of all industrialised fossil fuels, performing design, installation, maintenance and certification for compliance to environmental laws. In 2012, he moved to the UK for a career switch towards research in aerospace. Between the years 2012 and 2016 he has completed the Thermal Power MSc course and a PhD in Aerospace Engineering, specialising on modern aircraft engines integration and performance as well as design optimisation methods. Upon completion of his Doctorate, he enrolled as a Research Fellow in the Centre for Propulsion and Thermal Power Engineering at Â鶹´«Ã½AV, where he currently works today as Lecturer in Engine-Aircraft Integrated Design.
His research work focuses on aircraft and engine integrated design optimisation methods for subsonic and supersonic civil and military applications. It involves performance evaluations of advanced gas turbine cycles, use of alternative fuels like hydrogen and SAF on future passenger aircraft, next generation supersonic airliners and hybrid-electric propulsion.
Research opportunities
Aircraft Engines Conceptual Design, Aero Gas Turbine MDO & Integrated Design, Hydrogen-fuelled Propulsion Systems, Supersonic Propulsion Systems for Civil Applications, Hybrid-Electric Propulsion Systems.
Current activities
Dr Christos Mourouzidis is currently working within the Centre for Propulsion and Thermal Power Engineering. His research work focuses on aircraft and engine integrated design optimisation methods. He leads the research activities on automatic, multi-disciplinary and integrated design, computational methods for aircraft propulsion systems. His main interests revolve around next generation Gas Turbine Engines: 1) aero-thermal performance simulations, steady-state and transient, 2) gas path designation, component sizing and integration 3) engine weight, emissions and life estimations, 4) aircraft and engine integration, engine installation effects on aircraft performance, 5) aircraft environmental impact, performance and economics. He currently works on two ATI iUK projects, one EU Horizon 2020 and two industrial projects.
