Background

Dr Jerry Luo is a Reader in Energy Storage and Harvesting at Â鶹´«Ã½AV. His current research focuses on Renewable Energy and Energy Harvesting, including projects developing solar-to-hydrogen generation and researching on energy harvesting materials/devices. He has expertise in energy systems and devices, from materials research to system design and prototyping. He completed his PhD at the University of New South Wales (Australia). During PhD he was awarded a fellowship and worked at Technical University Darmstadt (Germany) as a visiting researcher. After his PhD he has been working in the universities in Australia and the UK, and joined Cranfield in 2016.

His research has been sponsored with funding over £3.6M, from EPSRC, Innovate UK, RAEng, HEIF (Higher Education Innovation Fund) and industry. He has been the Principle Investigator and Co-Investigator of 14 Innovate UK projects, 1 EPSRC ICASE project collaborated with BAE Systems, and 1 EPSRC Researcher in Residence. He received an ICURe Award in 2019, a Golden Award for Academic Excellence in Hydrogen Research in 2024, and nominated for Earthshot Prize 2024. He has over over 60 publications and 5 patents. His current research group has 2 postdocs and 8 PhDs, and runs a laboratory well equipped for research on energy materials and devices.
