Contact John Pearce

Background

Having completed the Applied Bioinformatics MSc at Cranfield John Pearce is now a PhD research student. John came to academia after a career in IT. where he specialised in IT strategy, digital transformation and enterprise architecture. John has worked for both big corporates (C&W, Cisco, and Thomson Reuters) and small startups (Nexagent, Video Networks and Actual Experience).

Research opportunities

Early data exploration of highly dimensional biological datasets, e.g. scRNAseq, with a focus on clustering and visualisation. A key component of clustering is the ability to determine the 'distance' between two samples. This has conventionally been based on Euclidean distance, but this becomes increasingly inappropriate as the number of dimensions increases. John is interested in how additional biological information could augment new distance measures to improve the clustering process.

Current activities
