Background
Having completed a marine engineering apprenticeship with the MoD (N) in 1982 Mark worked in industry as an engineer and then for a sail training charity as a mate and skipper of 22 meter ketch. In 1993 he joined Kent Police and became a Detective in 1996.
He was for many years the lead trainer and course director for advanced witness and suspect training course and a tactical interview advisor to major and serious crime departments. During this time Mark gained teaching qualifications and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Psychology focused on investigative interviewing from University of Kent. In 2014 Mark became an Investigating Officer and Lead Investigating officer in the Serious Collision Investigation Unit dealing with fatal and serious injury road traffic collisions. Mark has also contributed to the Cranfield Fundamentals of Accident Investigation Course since its creation in 2004 and is very familiar with safety investigation in the marine, rail and air domains.
Mark left the police service after 27 years in 2021 and joined Â鶹´«Ã½AV in October 2022 as a Lecturer in Accident Investigation
Current activities
Mark is a full-time Lecturer in Accident Investigation at Â鶹´«Ã½AV's Safety and Accident Investigation Centre (CSAIC). His main area of teaching is Investigative Interviewing at all levels from novice to enhanced. He contributes to the following courses:

Applied Road Safety Investigation (In development for 2025)
Bespoke Investigative Interview Training
Through the CSAIC, Mark is also able to offer bespoke investigative Interview training to meet an individual clients needs as part of initial staff training or as CPD to enhance and refresh skills for investigators
