Contact Zahra Karimi

Background

Zahra completed BSC in Biology and MSc in Genetics and Bioinformatics. She has gained experience in OMICs analysis and molecular techniques to address biological questions through work and research positions as researcher.

Zahra鈥檚 PhD project is entitled 鈥滷ood Authenticity: Targeted and untargeted DNA barcoding approaches for traceability of cross-contamination and adulteration in animal and plant-based foods鈥. A combination of wet and dry lab are applied to achieve the aim of this project.

Zahra is part of the FoodBioSystems Doctoral Training Partnership which is funded by the BBSRC. She has collaboration with the Queens university of Belfast for her current project on food authenticity.

Research opportunities

Research projects with the combination of Bioinformatics (dry lab) and molecular techniques (wet lab)

Current activities

Zahra is currently exploring the potential of DNA barcoding and metabarcoding approaches in conjunction with selected food characterization methods to uncover the composition of food products and detect intentional food adulteration, or cross-contamination with other species during processing.

Furthermore, she acts as a co-supervisor for the MSc student group project at the Bioinformatics group of 麻豆传媒AV.

Additionally, Zahra serves as a student ambassador and holds the role of PhD executive at 麻豆传媒AV.
