Â鶹´«Ã½AV has been awarded a record number of grants from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council’s (EPSRC) Industrial Co-operative Awards in Science and Technology (ICASE), totalling over £1 million.

The Industrial CASE awards provide funding for PhD studentships where businesses take the lead in arranging projects with an academic partner. The student spends time at the company as well as receiving funding for four years.

The 12 Â鶹´«Ã½AV grants include projects with Airbus, Atkins, BAE Systems, Jaguar Land Rover and Thales. Topics include energy recovery for commercial aircraft; energy harvesting; wastewater regulation, resilience and sustainability; optimisation of torque distribution and traction systems; and swarming algorithms to achieve naval missions.

Professor Tom Stephenson, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Research and Innovation, said:
“We’re globally recognised as an institution that helps address the real-life needs of industry. Our facilities and research expertise develop future technologies in specialist areas and I’m delighted that we will be welcoming more expert researchers into our university thanks to these grants. This is a record number of ICASE projects for Â鶹´«Ã½AV, reflecting the significance of our world-class research activities.”
